I know that as I gain more experience I am able to determine what certain malts will do to a beer. I know that sugar will dry it out and crystal malts will change my residual sweetness and mouthfeel.
I also know for hops that when I add certain hops at whirlpool I'm going to get a different flavor and aroma contributions to the finished product.
Would there be any way to input the behaviors of each ingredient and calculate them in such a way as to predict the type of beer you would be looking for?
I think we will get there some day, right now I'm just working through spreadsheets based on my brewing experience.
