Has anybody tried something like this?

I refuse to pay $36 for a simple check valve from NB.

For a few dollars might as well try it.  Hell, it's basically a fuel filter...which is a one-way valve and can be had for the same price. 
 
I used this for the Extreme beerfest and it worked like a champ.  Remember......$36 for a simple valve is bad....
