Hi, my name is Shane Burkhart and I am creating a service called Beerocity that will send you the ingredients for a unique beer every month. Right now I am trying to gauge interest in the service and would love to get feedback from you guys.

The website is http://beerocity.net

Would love for some feedback!

Thanks!

You know I see potential in this based on things like beer of the month people.
I think it would be better if you could pick styles though.

For example when I make it to the city there is a store that I stop at that has 1000 beers available.  I stop in there and try lots of different beers from around the country and around the world.  I find that even though I may have paid $5 for a bottle of beer, some are just not worth drinking.

Lager or ale would be another thing to choose although I would assume that the default would be ale since lager takes better temperature control than lots of guys have.

Good idea and I signed up just to see what it ends up being.

Even if the recipes were top notch and the shipping costs low, it still wouldn't seem appealing to me. There is nothing that makes this stand out from ordering a kit when needed. Unless your thinking that by buying a lot of the same ingredients all at once will substantially lower the costs, but somehow I doubt you'll be buying hops by the bale and repackaging them.

You asked for feedback, so I'm giving it.  I doubt it's what you'll want to hear, but you did ask.

I don't see much potential in this for you.  Kit beers can be purchased from quite a few places with advantages, such as:

Volume buying power to keep their prices low.
Proven recipes with many testimonials to back it up.
Can be purchased online already, just as yours are.
Can be purchased at the Local Homebrew Supply Store.
Have years of experience at this already and a faithful following.

If you can't find a way to differentiate yourself, I don't see how it will work out very successfully.

What will set you apart?
If it's recipes, what credentials do you bring that makes your recipes better than your competitors?
If it's convenience of having the ingredients delivered to the door of your customers, the kit beers already do this.  They probably do it less expensively than you can do it.

I googled your name along with the word beer, and the only information is this post and your website.  I don't see any credentials online that identify your experience at formulating recipes or recognizing when an online published recipe is well formulated.

Most advanced homebrewers pride theirselves on formulating good recipes.  Heck, that is part of the joy of homebrewing!  We love to formulate a recipe and then make it over and over, tweaking it until it fulfills our vision of what we want to make.

Finding recipes online is easy.  Such as this site... http://beerrecipes.org/  and this site... http://finnhillbrewing.blogspot.com/  and this site... http://www.homebrewersassociation.org/

This is just a few of what is out there.

My apologies for the reply, but wanting to do something isn't as easy as pulling it off successfully.

Tell us what sets you apart from your competition please.

I would tend to agree  with the others here.  sounds like an album of the month club (yes I'm that old), and most people today buy single tracks as MP3 on demand.

People tend to want to brew a specific style, or they take advantage of kits on sale that month via an email service like homebrewfinds.

Though you may find a niche market by advertising in hispter magazines though. Beer forums would probably be the wrong place for targets.
