I was fooling around with my Beersmith2 program and I was trying to figure out how to increase my alpha in hops via a setting in the program.

What I want to do is this.. lets say I have a hop that is 6 months old and it says 10 % alpha I want to know how to auto calculate this in the recipe.... I tried to go to the hop age tool and change a few setting but the IBU's Don't change in the recipe.

Does anyone know if it can do this? I KNOW IT CAN BE DONE WITH BOIL OFF, ABV, ETC.  BY ONE CLICK AND BINGO YOU CHANGE IT..... BUT HOW DO YOU DO IBU LOSS....

Thanks

Chris

If you go to the equipment profile that is associated with the recipe you can change the hop utilization %.  This will decrease all of the IBU values of the hops in your recipe by the same percentage.

However, if you want to adjust each hop individually, what you would have to  do is use the hop aging tool to figure out what the alpha % is for the hops that you have hanging around the house...then, when you create your recipe and select your hops, adjust the alpha % in the hops selection screen.

Thanks,
Dan
