Hi, how to create a recipe with extract and grains? When I take all grain, then extract is counted as a grain (with absorption etc) but when I take only extract then the grain does not make any sense.
What grains are you using and what specifically is not making sense to you?
Typically, specialty grains are steeped as part of an extract based recipe. You get much lower extraction than when they are mashed and this is reflected in the steeping efficiency set in the 'options' windows under 'advanced' settings. You may find that your efficiency is greater or lesser than the starting figure, but this number is a good starting point.
One thing you do not want to do is to use 'all-grain' as your recipe type when there is an appreciable amount of extract in the recipe. This will through you way off in the predicted numbers.
Adding to Oginme's response, if you're mashing the grains, instead of steeping them. You can select Partial Mash as the brewing type. Remember though, you'll need to include grains in the mini mash that have enough diastatic power to convert it.
