I too have noticed that BeerSmith will re-sort the mash steps in temperature order. If you have 2 steps at the same temperature there is a good chance they will get swapped the next time you open the recipe. You have to check and resort the profile every time you open it.
I use a cooler for mashing and I experience a few degrees of loss during the longer rests. Since BeerSmith is calculating the required infusion for the next step based on the rest temp of the current step, the recommended infusion temp is a little low. In an effort to be very accurate, I built a mash profile that includes the heat loss during the rest. Now the infusion calculations from BeerSmith are dead on. BUT, as stated above, every time you open the recipe the profile is completely trashed and requires resorting.
So I’m requesting that the application somehow gracefully handle temperature loss. Perhaps you could simply add an index column that is used to sort the profile.
I really like the idea of info/reminder steps in the mash profile. A sorting index would also help keep straight the info/reminder steps as well as profiles that have 2 steps at the same temp.
