A friend of mine gave me about 90 bottle caps, all with some level of rust (some very minute, some quite rusted). Can they be used? Can they be cleaned?

My feeling is ditch the rusted caps, caps are inexpensive at my lhbs they sell by the pound for pennies on the dollar, why mess up a quality handcrafted brew to save a few pennies? Just my two cents...

no unless you are wanting to make crappy beer that has to be choked down.  why risk it for  a few cheap caps?

Why would you take the chance of wasting the ingredients, energy  and your time on $1.80 worth of bad parts?

Thanks everyone. I had no idea if a rusted bottle cap was risky or not. I didn't know that just because it was ugly it was also a hazard. The rusted ones are long gone!
