Topics in This Week’s Episode (47:43)
- Today on the show I welcome back Chris Graham. Chris is President of MoreBeer and has been brewing for over 25 years. Chris has taught at the Siebel institute and is a former board member on the Brewer’s Association Board of Directors and the American Homebrewer’s Association Governing Council.
- Chris dives right in with “Flash Brewing” which is a no-boil, no mash method for making beer kits very quickly.
- We discuss what Flash Brewing is and what motivated his team to develop them.
- Chris explains how the flash brewing kits are different than other no-boil or fast brew kits and how technology has played a big role in making them feasible.
- We talk about the brewing process which is basically mixing the kit with water, adding the hop extract and yeast and then letting it ferment.
- The process can be completed in 2-3 weeks including fermentation and bottling.
- We discuss the equipment needed, and how the kits are becoming popular with even experienced brewers.
- Chris talks about how the kits have been received, and what the advantages and limitations are.
- We also discuss how Flash Brewing was inspired by an Australian method called “Fresh Wort”.
- Chris also discusses the new X3 conical line from Brew Built
- We spend a few minutes on the “Abstrax” line of hop extracts which are made in a unique way and can be added “to taste” directly to a finished beer.
- Chris offers his closing thoughts.
